DEAR EDUCATOR, Get back in the arms of Mother Nature with a hands-on experience that brings farming to life! Puck’s Farm has been bringing students closer to the cycles of Nature since 1981.. Students follow the circle of
life from the good Earth that grows the grain that feeds the cows that provides
the milk that nurtures the offspring that return nutrient-rich manure to the
soil where the cycle begins again. Students take part
by planting seeds and reaping their harvest, by holding a newborn animal and
watching a mother care for its young, by milking a cow and making butter from
the cream. The circle of life is just one
of Nature’s cycles that students can experience at Puck’s Farm. The
Water Cycle from pond to rain to crops to pond; the Glacial Cycle that created
the farmlands of the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Holland Marsh; and the
Ecological Cycle from fields to forests that provide a natural habitat for our
woodland friends. New Canadians and ESL students
not only develop their English, they see an important connection between Canada
and their own country: Our rural roots and the agriculture
that is universal to us all. Your visit will include pony
rides, a barn tour, farm critters, a hay ride, cow milking, butter making, the
amazing maze, plus seasonal events such as seed planting, sheep shearing, corn
harvest and pumpkin picking. We provide an interpreter for
each class or group to help teachers get the most out of each activity. Our
on-line teacher’s guide has lots of suggestions for classroom activities and
follow up study that complement the Ontario curriculum. The enjoyment of making and
tasting fresh-churned butter, cooking and eating just-picked sweet-corn, or
taking home a pumpkin right off the vine are delicious finales to day-long
experiences filled with learning, fresh air and old-fashioned fun! Please refer to the fact-sheet (PTO) for program details and call us now to book your spring visit! BOOK
